17/8/08. Day 4. Lochgilphead to Ayr

65m today, 338m so far, Ride time 5 hrs 30 mins

The run down to TarbertThe run down to Tarbert was awesome, clear roads, sunshine and postcard views only the headwind was against us. Doubling up on padded shorts helped our slightly tender backsides (why didn’t I take the earlier advice from Uncle Tony and do that from the start?).

Big climb up and over hill to Lochranza ferry port, well, when I say port, I do mean a concrete ramp into the sea, that was it! Toni did a hat change and went from Indy to Time Teams Tony Robinson in an instant.
The Ferry to ArranTime Team Toni..!

ArranLittle ferry over to the Isle of Arran where wild deer were being hand fed and people came from the mainland for cycling trips. Big climb straight away then stunning scenery round to Brodick.
Stunning Scenery

We actually raced parallel with the ferry for some time as he came into the port before realising he was much faster than us and we could miss it. After a little panic and a mad rush we made it with 10 mins to spare. The big ferry had jet skiers enjoying the wake it created as we headed back to the mainland. Through Irvine to Ayr and I was now nursing a sore achilles from miss aligned cleats. Indy went to hospital to sort out his chest infection and I stayed in the crappy halls of residence that needed condemning. Our food was bad and my general well being was now very low from what was a fantastic start to the day.
